JK2001 dash mount microphone performance

I have my microphone mounted in the center behind the rear view mirror. Even with the hardtop on, people on the other end of the call have a very difficult time hearing me. Anybody else have this problem. Is there a better mounting location? My dash doesn't have any flat spots to mount on. Anybody find a better mic?
