Hi, John. For the JL3001 we are re-using your OEM camera so the picture should essentially be exactly the same. Unfortunately, we have no control over the OEM camera's resolution and admittedly it isn't as sharp as, say, Insane Audio's IACAM1 or IACAM2. But this is the OEM camera. It may look a little pixalated just by virtue of the fact that we are expanding the image to a 9" screen. But it's the exact same image feed so the resolution is essentially the same.

The only other thing w'd recommend you do is to perhaps check your connections. Make sure everything is nice and clean (especially the RCA connections to your OEM camera). You may want to wrap each connection with electrical tape as well.

Please let us know!

I just recently installed my JL3001 and noticed the backup camera picture looks washed out compared to the OEM picture which was very colorful. It’s not black and white. Maybe too much brightness. Anyway to adjust the picture ion the JL3001? I will be installing the Insane forward camera next week and will do a comparison.

Hey there!

Congratulations on the installation of the JL3001! 🙂

Coming to the query at hand, we suggest you check all your connections, paying particular attention to the RCA cable (Make sure you're using the correct RCA cables) and make sure you're is using the Reverse CVBS.

Connect 'REVERSE CVBS OUTPUT' (from the Black CanBus module: MODEL: XSYBOX-006) to the 'Backup Cam' from the JL CanBus wiring harness (make sure to connect the Backup Cam wire from the black connector that plugs into the back of our head unit) and you should be good to go.

Please refer to video installation guide that will help you with the connection: https://insaneaudio.com/JL3001_VInstall ... stall.html

Just to let you know, Insane Audio’s JL3001 re-uses your OEM backup camera so the resolution and image is exactly the same. The only difference is that it’s a bit larger now on our 9” screen and since the OEM camera doesn’t have very high resolution this is a bit similar to zooming in or expanding a picture on any device so it will be a little less clear but this is the exact same image only expanded a bit. Admittedly the OEM camera isn't exactly high def, but it should certainly look good.

I’m excited to find out what the resolution of these cameras (IACAM1 & IACAM2) are, especially using composite (analog Non-HD) connections.

The specs for our cameras are published in the manuals available at www.insaneaudio.com/support

For the record - we aren't trying to sell customers on anything. We think it makes sense to re-use your OEM backup camera. Its there. Insane Audio supports it. It does its job and you can see behind you. But there is a pretty noticable differnence in picture quality and clarity between that and our cameras. Again - this is just an observation since we see both all the time at our shop. We don't know what the OEM camera specs are or how they compare to our products, but its just something we noticed right away.

Hi, all. As mentioned above, we reuse the OEM backup camera on your JL3001 so by default the image shoudl be the same as OEM (but expanded to a 9" screen). But here at Insane Audio we are always listening to our customers, so we took the liberty of adding some additional features to our latest software update that will alow you to adjust the brightness of your OEM backup camera image on a JL3001.

First, you'll want to make sure you are on version 1.3 of our firmware - https://www.insaneaudio.com/forum/viewt ... =32&t=4453

Then, you can go into settings -> car -> factory settings. The password is 126. Click on the other tab at the top.

If you scroll down, you will notice a setting for "reversing brightness". By default this is set to zero which means it is a direct feed from the OEM camera with no image manipulation. By setting this to a negative value, it will reduce brightness. Positive values increase the brightness.

As always, please be careful when in factory settings. There are things in here that can cause issues if set incorrectly so please take care not to change anything else.

We hope that helps!

Well thanks for that. That adjustment made my factory rear camera much better. Not so bright and washed out looking. I used a -7.
